On Sunday, this great group of kids were the majority of our visitors to the ranch. They are from Omak, Washington. As a group, they are the equivalent to the gifted class in the TV show, Malcom in the Middle.
The age range is 12-18. We knew nothing more than the number coming and the ages. When the tours began, they started asking questions and that's when we realized this was not our "typical" field trip group. What a great bunch of kids! Absolutely outstanding and friendly. My son will relate to the guy on the far right. I saw his Lionel Hampton sweatshirt and found out that he plays trumpet in a jazz group at school and they had the opportunity to perform with Hampton. In addition, the guy's mom is the group's teacher. Dustin, I said you would extend your sympathies to him.
We wish every group that visits could be this wonderful.
Today is Monday and we were planning to use this first real day off in over a week to visit Philipsburg. The weather forecast kept us here in Deer Lodge. A high wind warning kicked in around noon and is to last until sometime tomorrow morning. Traveling on mountain roads in a sub-compact car did not seem like a good idea. We hope things will clear so we can go on Tuesday.
Larry needed a five-gallon bucket for his gold-panning fun. We found one at the local hardware store about a block from our campground. Unless the weather is completely terrible, we walk everywhere here in town. After we walked the block back to the RV, Larry called me over to look into the bucket he had carried home. In just one block, that much gravel had blown in.
The wind right now is gusting to 25-30mph and could gust as high as 50 mph later. In the pic below, that is not fog in the background, it's dust.
Larry decided it was time to have some fun and we made this video. I hope everybody can get it to play!
Our fingers are crossed for a trip to P-Burg tomorrow. Should be a lot to share.
