At last, we have finally received verbal confirmation that we have been chosen for seasonal positions at the Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site. All that's left is a pile of paperwork to be completed. Although we are unpaid volunteers, we are still covered by workman's comp.
Larry will be working with the Department of Natural Resources assisting with the irrigation system on the ranch. He is excited to get to be a ranch hand. He will continue to send out his resume as he has done for the past seven months with no responses. There are just no jobs in his field.
I will be working with the National Park Service side of G-K as an interpretive guide and assisting the ranger who is the education specialist to develop program and materials for the local schools. Assisting with the museum archives will also be part of my assignment.
We will work at G-K for three days each week. During a portion of our "off" time, we plan to work with the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity in their building program.
